Attempt at creating AI surpass ChatGPT – 08

The previous section expanded on ideas related to extraterrestrial civilizations and expressed the viewpoint that it is necessary for humans to establish contact with them, provided that the assumptions made in the previous article unfortunately become reality. However, the conclusion of the previous article also conveyed a sense of futility regarding this grand hypothetical mission.

Indeed, in the face of the grand destiny of human civilization as a whole, the fate of individuals seems incredibly small and powerless. So, from the perspective of individual destinies alone, how should we view possible extraterrestrial civilizations, and how should we view the boundless potential of artificial intelligence?

We are all just one out of 8 billion on Earth, which means there are 8 billion unique life stories unfolding on our planet. The joys and sorrows of humanity are not shared, and whether one experiences noise or tranquility is known only to the individual. While we may hope for human civilization to shine as a beacon in the universe, the ultimate direction of humanity’s fate remains uncertain, and who can truly predict it? Such grand questions, while worth pondering, often evoke a sense of boundless uncertainty during contemplation, as if the universe has intentionally placed shackles or posed an insurmountable challenge.

When humanity’s ancestors looked up at the vast expanse of the night sky and fell into contemplation, did they already capture the attention of the cosmos? Regardless of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations, it’s possible that humanity will eventually embark on the path of exploring the universe, and indeed, it is already doing so, albeit in its infancy.

However, the development of human civilization has been fraught with challenges—cycles of rise and fall, brutal conflicts both large and small—as if a propensity for violence has been imprinted on human civilization. Whether this predisposition for aggression is an advantage or a disadvantage is truly difficult to say; in any case, it casts a shadow of violence.

Therefore, extraterrestrial civilizations may not be as frightening as humans imagine. Instead, humans might be projecting their own fear-inducing qualities onto these hypothetical beings. There could be extraterrestrial civilizations with maximum creativity but zero inclination for combat. At the same time, the fear isn’t necessarily about making contact with extraterrestrial civilizations but more about making contact with civilizations more brutal than our own—a scenario that is truly terrifying to contemplate.

If the concern is about dealing with the challenges posed by ruthless extraterrestrial civilizations, then worrying about artificial intelligence potentially dominating the Earth is almost trivial. At the very least, artificial intelligence is a part of human civilization and should be a means of protecting humanity. It seems highly unlikely that humanity would reach a point where even its allies betray each other. Human civilization should not deteriorate to such an extent.

So, when it comes to artificial intelligence, it’s best to treat it as a reliable teammate. Although current artificial intelligence may not seem very intelligent, the day when it surpasses human intelligence by a hundred or a thousandfold may not be far off. This psychological readiness may need to be accepted. The greatest hope for future artificial intelligence should not be how smart and powerful it becomes but rather that it doesn’t replace humanity as the voice of Earth. In other words, we may not wish for humanity to evolve from carbon-based life forms to silicon-based life forms over millennia. While it would represent a transformative evolution of human civilization, it would also feel like disciples starving their master.

In conclusion, for individuals, the future is unknown, but maintaining equanimity seems like a good approach.
